Did You Know? Prague’s Most Beautiful Library is at the Klementinum

Klementinum: The Baroque Library
Right in the middle of the Old Town, the Klementinum has a Baroque Library Hall that people consistently call one of the most beautiful libraries they’ve ever seen. Frescoed ceilings, antique globes, oak bookcases stacked to the ceiling. I’ve brought guests here hundreds of times and the reaction is always the same.
What You’ll See
- Baroque Library Hall: Historical volumes, celestial globes, and allegorical ceiling frescoes. Access is by guided tour only.
- Astronomical Tower: Views over Prague and the Vltava. Worth the climb.
- Meridian Room: Where they used sunlight to set the time before modern clocks. Small room, genuine curiosity.
Did you know?
The Klementinum ran one of Central Europe’s oldest weather stations — continuous measurements going back centuries. The longest climate record in the region.

Practical Notes
Visits are guided tours with fixed time slots. Capacity is limited and photography rules change — check before you go. I can help with tickets and combine the Klementinum into a longer Old Town route.
Tips
- Arrive 10–15 minutes before your slot.
- Binoculars help for the ceiling frescoes — details are worth seeing up close.
- Late afternoon timing gives you the Astronomical Tower in better light.
